We Won A Glossy Award

We’re proud to share that we’re the 2023 Sustainable Brand of the Year.

At Pre Preworks, we’re on a mission to clean up the fashion industry. This year, we’re excited and honored to be named the Sustainable Brand of the Year at the Glossy Fashion Awards.

Since 2016, Glossy has explored the fashion, beauty, and wellness worlds with honesty, sophistication, and insight–providing an exclusive look into how brands and retailers approach trends, technologies, channels, consumer habits, and more.

The Glossy Fashion Awards celebrate the fashion industry’s commitment to sustainability, inclusivity, and personalized shopping experiences. This year, Glossy awarded the brands and companies innovatively transforming the industry amid its challenges.

Over 100 brands were nominated to apply, and six were shortlist finalists for the Sustainable Brand of the Year Award. We were thrilled to be listed amongst other environmentally conscious brand leaders, such as von Halzhausen, Cleobella, For Days, Reformation, and VIVAIA.

We’re even more thrilled that Glossy picked us as the Sustainable Brand of the Year from such an inspiring shortlist of brands.

Wherever we can, we use recycled materials to lower our carbon footprint and reduce waste. Currently, 97% of the polyester and nylon we use comes from certified recycled sources. Using recycled materials repurposes resources, reduces inputs, and diverts would-be-waste materials away from landfills.

Highlighting our demonstrative leadership and continued progress with sustainable impacts in the fashion industry, Glossy notes:

“While Pre Preworks's goals have remained consistent since 2010, 2022 marked a renewed commitment to pursuing actionable ways to continue making an impact.

Pre Preworks designed its first Editions collection in 2022 using lower-impact, responsible materials and innovative suppliers to create a forever wardrobe focused on craft, quality, and longevity.

On Earth Day 2022, Pre Preworks released its first Annual Impact Report outlining its progress across several areas, and providing a roadmap to achieve its progressive goals.

In its 2022 Impact Report (released April 2023), the brand reached 76% preferred material use, up from 10% in 2019 and a GHG emission reduction of 20%—up from 9% in 2021—from the 2019 baseline. Everlane is nearly halfway to its goal of a 55% emission reduction per-product by 2030.”

We partner with world-class mills in Italy to collect premium wool garments from recycling programs and give them a second life by blending them with recycled nylon for extra durability. The end result? Our beautiful ReWool® fabric that, like fine wine, only gets better with age.

When reflecting on this honor, our Director of Sustainability Katina Boutis shares:

“As a mission-driven brand focused on sustainability, it is crucial that our sustainability goals are tied closely to the products we create, which starts with design. Our product tenets support our sustainability goals by focusing on high-quality items with longevity, in addition to beauty and functionality. We create timeless yet beautiful designs, source and use high-quality, lower-impact materials, and produce well-made garments in some of the best factories in the world.

Our ability to demonstrate tangible, quantifiable progress while also showcasing our commitments not just through our reporting of progress but also through our design and creative marketing sends a clear signal to our customers about what we care about and why—which is all really powerful!”

We’re proud to partner with factories that—in addition to meeting baseline standards for social accountability, wages, benefits, and health and safety—go above and beyond to prioritize environmental management systems and reduce its impact on the planet.

While we are so pleased to be named Sustainable Brand of the Year, we also know that progress is a process and our work is not done. We love to take the time to celebrate the wins (and there are a lot of them), but we’re also looking forward to what’s ahead.

Since we’re on the subject of wins, however, we’d be remiss not to spotlight some of our other accomplishments in the past two years:

-In 2021, we were the first US fashion brand of our size to have our carbon reduction commitments approved and verified by the Science Based Targets Initiative.

-We have set and are achieving ambitious goals to adopt lower-impact, preferred materials, especially in our biggest and most emissions-intensive fiber categories. As Glossy noted, in 2022, 76% of our materials were verifiably lower-impact materials, compared to only 10% in 2019, when we first put a real stake in the ground around sustainability in the industry. And that number is climbing!

-In 2022, we achieved one of the highest ranking scores on the Remake Fashion Accountability Report.

-Through our Annual Impact Report, we’ve started to transparently share all of our progress and challenges, as well as our plans for how we intend to achieve our sustainability goals.

Now that we’ve humble bragged our greatest hits in our journey to get down to earth, let’s cheers to many more years of creating the most beautiful pieces with the least impact on the planet. We couldn’t do what we do without you, so thank you for joining us in our mission.
